Developments around the Priory ruins

Scaffolding has gone up around one of the walls of the Priory in preparation for some remedial work.

Meanwhile quite a lot of progress has been made on the area behind this, where the low stones which mark the outline of walls that have disappeared are being improved. Work is also in progress on the herb garden.

New work starting and new flowers

The contractors are starting the soft strip works to the herb garden within the ruins, which will involve fencing a large section of the grassed area to the north side of the ruins. They will be opening up the pond garden walk ways to the public with some localised fencing to small areas still under construction.

Last year volunteers planted some snake head fritillaries in the park, and these are now beginning to flower, though they are quite difficult to spot.

Each flower stem is only about 8cm high, so you are probably viewing these photos at life size or bigger!

Progress report

Tarmac is now going down on the path at the northern end of the park, and as you should be able to see, edging stones have been put in place to help to keep it in good condition, and to make it look neater.

Work has started on re-paving the arbour - see below.

The paving has now been re-laid all around the Lily Pond, and for those who were wondering, like myself, about the space between the new paths and the walls of the Lily Pond, these areas will be turfed.

Below are some pictures showing the progress of work on the pavilion. A lot of the new breeze block walls are now in place, and the roofing on the one side is now much more complete. In addition, work has started on the interior of the pavilion.

Many thanks to Lydia Allt for providing more information, and my apologies for the quality of my photos, particularly of the pavilion, where it is difficult to get in a position to take a decent photo.

Progress on the pavilion

Parts of the walls and roof of the extensions to the pavilion are now in place, and work seems to be going more quickly again now that the weather has improved.

Back to work in the park

After a short break caused by the snow and the Easter holiday, work has resumed in the park. The slabs are being put back on east side of the Lily Pond, and work has started on the south side. On effect of work on the south side is that at present it isn't possible to get into the area enclosed by the wall around the Lily Pond.

The central path in the Rose Garden has now had the remaining slabs laid, though it is still closed as there is some more work to be done on the low walls.

Meanwhile the distribution cabinet is now in place ready for later installation of lighting around the priory ruins.
